8/29/08 Real Estate Update

Real Estate | Posted by Cheri Diehl

The Kite Festival came to a soggy end last Sunday but at least they had a few nice days…  Here’s the link to photos and upcoming events:  KITES

The 8th Annual Chaumont, France Air Force Reunion that we hosted in Ilwaco over the weekend was a total success!  The Inn at Harbour Village was a great venue and things couldn’t have worked out better.  Our thanks go to Peter and Janice, the Innkeepers and our photographers!  Next year we’re off to San Diego.

According to Bruce Walker, Pacific County Assessor, January 1 to August 1, 2008 saw 343 total sales; 287 sold for more than assessed value, 8 sold for exactly assessed value and 48 sold for less than assessed value.  Average assessed value to sales price ration: 67%.  If you live north of Joe Johns Road, you’ll be getting your revaluation notice in September.  There’s a lot to understand about values, levies, etc., and I’m not an expert.  Call the Assessor’s Office at 642-9301 – they can answer all your questions.

President Signs Housing Act:
Responding to the downturn in the housing market, on July 30, President George W. Bush signed into law the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.  Some changes go into effect as early as October 1, 2008.  The Act will, among other things:  help up to 400,000 at-risk homeowners refinance into government-insured mortgages; raise the cap on FHA-insured mortgages; create a Housing Trust Fund with proceeds from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; increase funds for housing counseling agencies; enhance protections against foreclosure under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act; and provide almost $4 billion to help state and local governments address rising inventories of foreclosed properties.

The  Bank of the Pacific sent notification that $50 counterfeit bills are currently being passed on the peninsula. For more information, they recommend that you visit: Money Factory
The site has a wonderful feature where you can click directly onto the type of bill you want and see all the particulars. It also includes info on things like paper, portrait, watermark, color-shifitng ink, security thread and serial numbers.

Had a great time at the Art Walk in Ilwaco last night.  Wine at Raven & Finch, dinner at Pelicano…  the company was excellent too!  Last chance to enjoy this great Art Walk will be September 4.

Here’s what’s coming up at the Beach:

The highway department states that there will be minimal road work next week in order to avoid disruption of traffic coming to the peninsula for Kite Festival. However, at least once or twice during the week, one of their sign guys will be out on the shoulder of 101, between the bridge and the tunnel and again east of the bridge near Megler, to do some sign repairs. This may result in a bit of slowing down, if drivers wish to be cautious. Otherwise, our roads will be clear!
