Chinook was originally established as a fishing village by the Chinook Indians. Up to 1,000 native people camped and fished at the site where the town is now.
As settlers came and discovered the abundance of Salmon, the village became known as Chinookville. Shortly, it had the highest wealth per capita in the country due to the effective fishing. It is now a small, unincorporated town. The fishing industry lives on through the Port of Chinook and the sturgeon and salmon fishing seasons.
The charm and quainteness of Chinook will take you back in time.
