“The Guaranteed Rural Housing (GRH) Program will be implementing procedural changes in the upcoming months.  On October 1st, 2011, we will be lowering the GRH fee from the current 3.5% back to 2% for new applications.  Effective with this change, we will be implementing an annual fee.  The annual fee will be 0.3% of the outstanding balance of the loan. ”  What does this mean to you?  Ask me and I’ll let you know!

COMING UP!

There’s always so much to do here on the peninsula.  I know I can’t hit them all (but you can check Funbeach and follow the multitude of posts on Facebook).  Here are some that I’m promoting this week:

EMPTY BOWLS  March 12th from Noon until 2 pm at the Peninsula Church Center in Seaview, you can support FISH Emergency Services, His Supper Table and Community Table while enjoying gourmet soup donated by local eateries.  The $10.00 donation includes a hand made pottery bowl to take home!

QUILT SHOW   March 18, 19 and 20 at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum.  Sponsored by the Peninsula Quilt Guild, enjoy the 16th annual show entitled “Quilting at the Beach”.  Free admission plus you’ll want to buy a raffle ticket for the “Salt Water Taffy” prize quilt.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST  March 19 from 10 to 1 at the Chautauqua Lodge Meeting Room.  A free breakfast to meet your 2011 Long Beach Relay for Life team.  Meet some of our survivors!  Donations are gladly accepted but not required.  www.relayforlife.org/longbeachwa

Want to know more about the Columbia River Channel Improvement Project and the Columbia River Jetties?  The Columbia River Channel Coalition is the place to go.  If your organization is looking for an interesting program, I can highly recommend Lisa Pomasl!  She was the speaker at the Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula this week and gave an fascinating presentation.

FIBER SATURDAY  March 5 from 10 until about 2, the Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild will be demonstrating spinning (and maybe some weaving) at the Olde Towne Trading Post in Ilwaco.  Bring your wheel, drop spindle, knitting or curiousity and join us!

That’s all for today.  Real estate continues to march along into March.

Discovery Coast Real Estate has some wonderful properties for sale!  And if one of those isn’t what you’re looking for, we can show and sell any property listed for sale.  We can even help with those FSBOs.  For more information on any property for sale on the Long Beach Peninsula, whether on the beach, bay, lake or top of the hill,  call us at 360-642-3325 or email Discovery Coast Real Estate.

May Weavers Guild Meeting

Everything! | Posted by Cheri Diehl

Great turnout for the meeting at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco, WA.  We had a business meeting, enjoyed our brown bag lunches and some show ‘n share.  We also had a mini-yard sale of weaving/spinning/knitting goodies that members wanted to sell.  After the meeting a few of us headed to Marty’s house to work on the guild booth for ANWG.

Spinning at the Shelburne Inn

Weaving & Spinning | Posted by Cheri Diehl

The Clatops Weavers & Spinners Group has a contingent of spinners who get together most every Thursday evening at the historic Shelburne Inn.  We’re happy to have people watch or give spinning a “spin”!  Drop by and say hi to us, try your hand at either a spinning wheel or drop spindle, or just watch in awe.

Jewelry Making

April 21 2009.  Joy Winther of Kalama (a past member of the Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild) put on a wonderful program showing us how to make jewelry out of thrums (leftover warp).  For this class we first made a Kumihimo braid.

Clatsop Weavers & Spinners Guild

Weaving & Spinning | Posted by Cheri Diehl

Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild is a great group of women (but men are welcome too) who are interested in weaving, spinning, knitting and furthering these crafts in our community.  The guild meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month, usually at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco.  Spinners get together the 1st Tuesday of the month, either in Ocean Park or Astoria and also most Thursday evenings at the Shelburne Inn, Seaview.  Contact me for more info!  360-244-2660 or email me!  See our photo gallery as it grows.

President’s Challenge

Weaving & Spinning | Posted by Cheri Diehl

In 2007, our illustrious leader, Marty Lemke, travelled to the Cook Islands and returned with a beautiful postcard for each member.  There was a catch though.  We wrote our names on the cards and then they were drawn by other members.  The challenge: to make some fiber-related item based on the theme of the card and present it to the owner of the card at the Christmas Party.  What a wonderful time we had and it was fascinating to see the finished projects.  All were beautiful, all were very different.
