Summertime and the living is easy….

Everything!, Long Beach Peninsula, Real Estate, water front, water view | Posted by Cheri Diehl

The days are sunnier and warmer.  And even when the sun isn’t shining, the rain has been warmer!  Life is just so good at the beach.

Just for fun – how do you like these photos?  Would you buy one of these listings?  I just love it when I find one of these photo-bloopers. Have you got any to share?

Did you know – contrary to popular belief, you CAN finance a building on leased land!  Start with a local lender.  They know the area, the potential, the need.  So, if you were agonizing over whether or not to buy the former Port Bistro building at the Port of Ilwaco, don’t despair!  There may be financing available to the right buyer.  And there is a need for you to open a restaurant at the Ilwaco Marina.  If not a restaurant, what are your ideas?  Check out Ilwaco!

Remember, Discovery Coast Real Estate can help with all your real estate needs.  Commercial, residential, investment, recreation, we have it all!

What a beautiful day at the beach!

Everything!, Races, Real Estate | Posted by Cheri Diehl

It just doesn’t get any better than this. Sunshine, blue skies, light breeze… This is what we live for! Took advantage of it on Sunday to putter in the yard but the weather was just too great to ignore the fact that my MG was sitting quietly in the shop, battery on trickle charge, waiting for me. So, I hopped in and took off. Stopped in Long Beach for the Peninsula Art Association Art Show! What a fantastic display. I even made a purchase for my new office. The photographer is my friend, George Power. What a good eye. img_0002

So, after that I cruised up 103 to Ocean Park for a latte and my very favorite chocolate covered biscotti at Full Circle Cafe.  Feeling very cheerful, I decided it was time to head home and mow the lawn.  The car, being British, didn’t see it my way and I only made it about 4 blocks before it stopped and refused to stay running more than 30 seconds at a time.

Since Charlie was away for a vintage car race in California – Sears Point – I whipped out my trusty AAA card, spent 1-1/2 hours relaxing while I waited for the tow truck and still got home in time to mow the lawn!

But, enough about me.  How about some clam dates?

CON ARTISTS TEXT CONSUMERS TO POSE AS BANKS, CREDIT CARDS

BBB recommends not trusting text messages that discuss finances. Lake Oswego, OR — Feb. 18, 2009 — Your Better Business Bureau has received recent inquiries showing that con artists are using text messages to attempt to scam financial-institution customers. Scam examples: – Washington and Oregon consumers called your BBB saying they received the following scam text message: “Application Center / This is an automated message from Cullman Savings Bank. Your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 1-888-873-9356.” Cullman Savings Bank Web site says they “do not use e-mail, text messaging or telephone calls to verify personal or account information.” – Alaska consumers called your BBB and Alaska State Troopers sent out a press release warning that text messages were being sent that falsely informed consumers their Credit Union One account had been suspended. It directed mobile phone owners to call the bank at 870-345-4202, or visit 8705874360@cu1.org to resolve the problem. Credit Union One will never send consumers a text message or e-mail to verify account information. Smishing: Such scams – where consumers are contacted through a text message in hopes of swiping their personal information – are known as smishing. Your BBB advises the following to avoid smishing scams: – Assume unsolicited text messages are fraudulent. – Know your financial institutions’ communication policies. These can be found on the Web site or by calling the customer service line. Financial institutions will never contact you for personal or account information via text message or e-mail. – If you receive an unsolicited message supposedly from a financial institution, contact the business at the number you know is valid – not the number in the unsolicited message. Check the legitimacy of the message in this way. Never reply back, click on links or visit Web sites from unsolicited messages. – Consumers can also report unsolicited text messages to their phone service provider. – If you discover you have provided financial account information to a scam artist, contact the financial institution immediately. If you had money stolen from the account, file a police report and place a fraud alert with the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, 800-525-6285; Experian, 888-397-3742; and TransUnion, 800-680-7289. Visit www.bbb.org to stay up-to-date on scams affecting your area.

Thinking about painting?  I found an interesting article about the psychology of color.

Pacific County to Begin Monthly Testing of AHAB Sirens

South Bend, Washington – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) will begin monthly testing of the All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) sirens on Monday, March 2, 2009, at noon.  Monthly tests will occur at noon on the first Monday of each month thereafter.
The AHAB sirens will sound the Westminster Chimes for 10 seconds followed by a 15 second verbal message stating “This is a test of the Emergency Management Agency Tsunami Warning System.  This is only a test.”
In actual events, the AHAB sirens will sound the constant tone (no warble) for three continuous minutes, and may be followed by a verbal message.  The Pacific County Tsunami Plan calls for the AHAB sirens to be activated any time Pacific County is placed within the area of a tsunami warning.  A tsunami warning means that an earthquake in the Pacific Rim may have generated a tsunami wave that has the potential to reach the Pacific County coastline within a three hour window of time.
There are currently ten AHAB sirens installed along the Long Beach Peninsula located in the areas of Ilwaco, Seaview, Long Beach, Surfside, and Ocean Park.  There is also an AHAB siren located in Bay Center.  Service on the installations was recently completed to upgrade equipment and replace defective voice chips.  Sirens are not designed to be heard indoors and the sound may also be impacted by adverse weather.  Residents are encouraged to have alternate methods of warning such as NOAA weather radios, which are tested weekly and can be heard indoors.
The PCEMA has requested assistance from Pacific County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) volunteers in tracking the success of the test.  Residents with questions or concerns may contact the PCEMA office at (360) 875-9340 or (360) 642-9340.

Real Estate at the Beach!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  Can you believe it’s the end of October?  And the weather has been more than kind to us.  Remember to set your clocks back an hour Saturday night.  Finally get to make up for that lost hour way back in the Spring.

Won’t you be glad when the election is over?  No more ads, negative or otherwise.  No matter who wins, it could be good news for real estate.  Election years are often hard on sellers.  Now, if we can just get that pesky stock market to cooperate!

Been an exciting week so far.  Tuesday night was the fantastic Friends of Chinook School fundraiser.  Since my friend, Nan, does such a great job blogging about it, I’m not going to try and duplicate it.  You will find a picture of me and Charlie if you visit her blog:  SEAVIEWWA. She also has the info you need about tonight’s progressive Halloween party at the Depot and Shelburne. I’ll be there for sure!

BEACH HAPPENINGS: Bullshot Crummond continues this weekend! I had the pleasure of front row center last week. Hard to describe, but I laughed a whole lot! Put on by our fabulous Peninsula Players, you won’t want to miss this one.

MUSIC in Ilwaco at Raven and Finch.

CLAMMING, WILD MUSHROOMS, OCIAN IN VIEW, CRIBBAGE – It’s going to be quite a month leading up to Thanksgiving. Come to the beach and enjoy. For more info on these and more activities, visit the great site of FUNBEACH.

Looking for a boat? Have a cabin or property at the beach you’d like to trade? Chris has a 1988 42′ tri-cabin Trawler, value is $100k. I have lots of photos if you’re interested!

October wasn’t the hottest month for real estate sales here at the beach.  Six residential and five vacant land sales for the entire month.  These links are where you can find listings and sales since my last post.  If you’re ever curious about any of them, let me know.  The map is the link to off-peninsula properties.  The links are good for 30 days.

Just a reminder that I have access to all properties in our area. Ocean front, bay front, view, little bitty lots, acreage, commercial, residential, you name it! See a sign? Call me for more info! I hope that this blog and the pages you’ll find on it are helpful to you. If so, let me know. Share with a friend.
