Summertime and the living is easy….

Everything!, Long Beach Peninsula, Real Estate, water front, water view | Posted by Cheri Diehl

The days are sunnier and warmer.  And even when the sun isn’t shining, the rain has been warmer!  Life is just so good at the beach.

Just for fun – how do you like these photos?  Would you buy one of these listings?  I just love it when I find one of these photo-bloopers. Have you got any to share?

Did you know – contrary to popular belief, you CAN finance a building on leased land!  Start with a local lender.  They know the area, the potential, the need.  So, if you were agonizing over whether or not to buy the former Port Bistro building at the Port of Ilwaco, don’t despair!  There may be financing available to the right buyer.  And there is a need for you to open a restaurant at the Ilwaco Marina.  If not a restaurant, what are your ideas?  Check out Ilwaco!

Remember, Discovery Coast Real Estate can help with all your real estate needs.  Commercial, residential, investment, recreation, we have it all!

Here comes July, ready or not!

I don’t even feel like it’s summer and yet it’s moving along so quickly!  Maybe it’s because we’re just so darned busy in the “summer” months.  Not just with real estate, but with all the fun things to do.  Read through this partial list and then check out the featured real estate listings for this post.  We have something for everyone and Discovery Coast Real Estate is ready to help you find your beach property before the summer is over!

Salmon Fishing starts July 1 – visit the Port of Ilwaco for more info on fishing and special events held there.  Saturday Market is going on all summer long.  The next Art Walk will be July 8 – you won’t want to miss that!

And while we’re talking about Ilwaco, be sure to “Feel the Thunder” on Saturday, July 3.

The 4th itself is filled with activities – Ocean Park hosts their “Old Fashioned 4th of July” with a parade (watch for me on the Rotary “float”) and the first annual Art in the Park (I’ll be there too with the Clatsop Weavers & Spinners Guild).

Long Beach’s popular Summerfest continues and Fireworks start at dusk.

nature16Spring is always a time of renewal and maybe the real estate market is going to see some of that energy!  We’ve seen an increase in potential buyers looking at properties, asking for more info and just generally acting more enthused about purchasing.  I hope many of them will be attending the Home Buyer Fair on March 31.  You don’t need to be a first time buyer to attend.  You don’t even need to be contemplating buying or selling right now.  Just come for the fun of it (and the cookies).

According to the National Association of Realtors, existing home sales were up in February which is good news for everyone, even though over 40% of those sales were “distressed sales”.    First time buyers accounted for a good bit of the action after the $8,000 tax credit was announced, purchasing about 50% of the homes sold.

greenfishswimAnd for some local good news, Butch Smith, from the Ilwaco Charter Association, reports the Salmon season opens on June 28th this year and will run for 7 days a week! It is predicted to be a great season. Buoy 10 is also supposed to be excellent, with over 1.1 million fish coming back this year. Halibut season will open on May 1 (Friday) this year, but will only be 3 days/week: Thursday, Friday & Saturday until the quota is reached.  Sturgeon season will open on May 9 and continue through June 28, with a bonus of July 2,3, and 4.

On the subject of salmon, Butch Smith, President of the Ilwaco Charter Association, reports that this should be the best ocean salmon season since 2001.
clamDon’t forget clamming is tentatively scheduled for this weekend along with the annual Bluegrass Festival.
